Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe is the most important train station in Kassel. It is located in Bad Wilhelmshöhe district in the western part of the city. The main street that links Bad Wilhelmshöhe and the station with the inner city (Mitte) is named Wilhelmshöher Allee. It is about 15-20 minutes walk from Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe Train Station to the centre – there are also very frequent tram services. The tram stop is named Bahnhof Wilhelmshöhe.
Other major streets near Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe Station include Landgraf-Karl-Strasse, Bertha-von-Suttner-Strasse, and Hessbergstrasse.
Although there is a Hauptbahnhof (Main Train Station) in Kassel too, it is Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe that has access to long-distance trains and therefore is more important (and sometimes referred to as “Kassel Central Station” in English).
Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe Station was newly built in the 1980’s (opened in 1991) together with the high-speed railway between Hannover and Würzburg. Kassel Hauptbahnhof was not suitable for high speed trains to stop there, because it is a terminal station, so the trains would need to turn there, which was unacceptable for high speed services. Nevertheless, there are good and frequent regional train services between the two stations.
