Barbican in London

Barbican is an area in the City of London. It is located between Aldersgate Street and Moorgate, to the north from London Wall. The name Barbican usually refers to one of the following (all are in the same place):

  • Barbican Centre – a large performing arts complex which consists of several concert halls and venues, including Barbican Hall, Barbican Theatre, Barbican Art Gallery, The Curve, Barbican Film, Barbican Library, several conference halls, exhibition halls, and restaurants.
  • Barbican Estate – a complex of residential buildings.
  • Barbican Tube Station – a station served by 3 tube lines: Circle, Hammersmith & City, and Metropolitan. It is between Moorgate and Farringdon on each of these lines. In the past (before Barbican was built) this station was named Aldersgate Street or just Aldersgate.

Other Places near Barbican

Still within the Barbican complex there is St Giles Church and the City of London Girls School. Adjacent to (and partly inside) Barbican there is the Museum of London (the address is 150 London Wall).

Distances in the City of London are quite short and there are several other well known buildings and attractions within easy (5-10 minutes) walking distance from Barbican. They include for example St. Paul’s Cathedral, Bank of England, London Stock Exchange, and buildings of many of the world’s biggest global financial companies.
