GC 1 Highway on Gran Canaria

The busiest and the most important road on Gran Canaria is highway GC-1, which connects the island’s capital Las Palmas and adjacent business and residential centres in the north with popular beach resorts on the south coast of Gran Canaria – Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas, and Puerto Rico. Halfway between Las Palmas and the beach resorts the highway also passes by Gran Canaria’s airport (known as Las Palmas Airport or LPA).

Highway GC-1 Bypassing Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles

GC 503, Gran Canaria

On the picture above, highway GC-1 is bypassing Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles, which together form the largest beach resort on Gran Canaria. The picture was taken from Tablero de Maspalomas, a part of Maspalomas situated on a small hill behind the highway and quite far from the coast. GC-1 highway is the road that goes on the bridge; the road in the valley is GC-503/GC-504 to Aqualand Maspalomas, Montaña la Data, and Ayagaures.
