Teide from Gran Canaria West Coast

Yes, you can see Mount Teide from Gran Canaria. Tenerife (the island where Mt. Teide is located) is about 60-70 km to the west-northwest from Gran Canaria, and therefore:

  • The place on Gran Canaria where you can see Teide is of course the west coast.
  • It is quite far and Mount Teide seems just like a little triangle on the horizon.

It is actually about 90 km from the west coast of Gran Canaria to the peak of Teide, as Teide of course is far from the coast in Tenerife.

Teide from Gran Canaria

Can you see Teide on this picture? If you didn’t know what to look for, you would quite likely miss it.

Teide from Gran Canaria

The same view zoomed. I took these pictures when driving Gran Canaria west coast road (GC-200).

Teide from Gran Canaria

Another place, another view of Mount Teide from Gran Canaria west coast.

Teide from Gran Canaria

This picture is also zoomed. You can see another piece of land to the left of Teide – that is part of the Las Cañadas caldera, which surrounds Mt. Teide in the centre of Tenerife. In fact, when there are no clouds, you can see the whole Tenerife from Gran Canaria, including Las Cañadas caldera, Teide, smaller hills on the coast, the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Anaga Mountains.

Teide from Agaete, Gran Canaria

Besides the road GC-200, one of the best places for seeing Teide from Gran Canaria is Agaete (or its port, Puerto de las Nieves) in the north-west of Gran Canaria.

Teide from Gran Canaria

This is Teide as you can see it from Puerto de las Nieves.

Teide from Gran Canaria

Teide a bit later, after sunset. Here you can see more pictures from Gran Canaria west coast around sunset.
