London Bridge

London Bridge is a bridge, station, and surrounding area in Central London.

The Bridge – Location and History

London Bridge links the City of London with Southwark. Neighbouring (road) bridges are Tower Bridge (downstream) and Southwark Bridge (upstream). Between London Bridge and Southwark Bridge there is also the Cannon Street Railway Bridge.

London Bridge was the first (and for many centuries the only) bridge over the Thames in London. First there was a wooden bridge built by the Romans. Since that time there were several versions, as both technology and transport demands improved over time. The current bridge, a bix girder structure, was opened in 1973.
