Brixton Academy is a popular music venue in Brixton (a district in London). In the last decades it has hosted concerts by some of the world’s greatest stars of pop, rock, and other kinds of music. Many artists (including Faith No More, Brian May, or Good Charlotte) have recorded live albums at the venue (usually named Live at Brixton Academy).
Although most Londoners know it as Brixton Academy, the official name is currently O2 Academy, Brixton. In the past, the venue was named Sundown Centre (in the 1970’s) or Astoria (from its start in 1929 until 1972). The passage in front of the Academy is still named Astoria Walk.
Brixton Academy is located inside the triangle formed by the junction of Stockwell Road and Brixton Road. It is about 2 minutes walk from Brixton Station (Victoria tube line and National Rail; 8 minutes from Victoria Station by tube). Several bus lines also stop next to Brixton Academy.
