Aachen Train Station

Aachen Hauptbahnhof – main train station – is located in the south-eastern part of Aachen inner city, about 12 minutes walk from Aachen City Hall and about 8 minutes walk from Theaterplatz. It is situated at Bahnhofplatz, between Lagerhausstrasse and Römerstrasse. From the area near the City Hall and Markt, it is best to take either Franzstrasse or Theaterstrasse.

High Speed Trains

The main train station is served by all kinds of trains, including ICE and Thalys high speed trains. Aachen is on the high speed corridor between Belgium and the Rhein region in Germany. Trains generally go Paris (only some trains) – Brussels – Liege – Aachen – Cologne and from Cologne they continue to either Frankfurt or Düsseldorf – Duisburg – Essen.

Regional Trains

Besides the long distance services there are of course numerous regional trains to destinations like Eschweiler, Düren, Herzogenrath, and other nearby cities and towns.

Other Train Stations in Aachen

There are two other train stations in Aachen city centre, and several other stations in other parts of the city. The two in the centre are:

  • Aachen-Schanz at the end of Jakobstrasse, in the south-western part of the inner city.
  • Aachen-West between Königshügel and Lousberg, in the north-west, just off the ring road that goes around the inner city.

Regional trains generally call at these stations too; high speed trains stop only at Aachen Hauptbahnhof. There are very frequent services (usually every 15 minutes) between all these stations.
